20 YEARS OF BACHELOR RECORDS

June 18th 2025 |

In the year 2005, under obscure constellations of excess and intent, the CHOKE MEDIA EMPIRE gathered more than it could contain, and from this overabundance came a peculiar decree: to bind its fortune into the form of a record label, in hopes that sound might transmute wealth into something greater still. Yet the prophecy did not unfold as written. Still, the flow of coin—and conviction—remained, altered but unbroken.

Thus emerged Bachelor Records, first as a pure vinyl vessel in an age when wax was not yet idolized by the masses, but kept by the devoted: collectors, outsiders, and those who listened beyond trend and time. From the secluded enclave of Adnet—small in number, vast in resonance—the label cast its first offerings into the world, among them an early release of Black Lips, long before the wider currents of recognition and imitation had fully formed.

And it is written that from this origin, connections were forged—between scenes, between cities, between the unfolding of Eleven Empire and the wandering catalogues of labels such as Burger Records, Slovenly Recordings, and Alien Snatch! Records. Through these alignments, certain acts were carried across thresholds—Traumahelikopter, Birdcloud, Paint Fumes, and Salamirecorder—finding new sanctuaries in sound and stage.

Yet Bachelor Records is not only archive of leathered noise pressed into vinyl scripture. It is woven into the living fabric of Austrian sound culture, extending its reach beyond the present moment and into re-emergence. Even the forgotten past is called forth again, as in the resurrection of works such as Chuzpe and Novak’s Kapelle, reissued as if summoned from sealed time.

And so it is declared: twenty years of Bachelor Records shall be marked not as commemoration alone, but as gathering—of bands, of DJs, of vinyl, and of the enduring strange joy that sound continues to exist at all.
